The Denver Nuggets dropped 118-114 in an interesting preseason contest against the Phoenix Suns. Even though the Suns rested their best players, the game was still very competitive. This is the Nuggets’ third loss in a row, which is worrying as they prepare for the regular season.
Nikola Jokic played like an MVP. He shined with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and dished out 9 assists. His growing chemistry with three-time All-Star Russell Westbrook is also getting attention.
Michael Porter Jr. matched Jokic’s 21 points with an impressive 8-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, proving his offensive skills.
The Nuggets had trouble defending against three-point shots. The Suns made 23 three-pointers, while the Nuggets only made 12. This indicates an issue that requires resolution.
Nuggets coach highlights team’s struggles after tough loss
The Nuggets played their usual starting five—Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr., Christian Braun, and Jamal Murray—while the Suns rested their key players. Despite standout performances from Jokic and Porter, Denver lost their third preseason game due to poor defense.
In the post-game interview, coach Malone voiced his frustration, saying, “We dominated the glass and the paint, but we got our ass kicked from three. Giving up 37 points in that third quarter was embarrassing. We’ve gotta be better.”
He emphasized the need for better chemistry and communication, stressing, “We have the talent, but we need to play as a cohesive unit. Our defense needs to be more disciplined, and we must communicate better on the court.”
