The Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst made some scathing comments about their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, following the recent unprofessional approach to contract talks.
The four-time MVP made it clear on the Pat McAfee Show that the Jets is his preferred home, however, ESPN’s Adam Schefter later disclosed on the NFL Live about the uncertainty regarding Aaron’s trade due to the Packers and the Jets’ failure to reach any conclusion.
What did the Packers say about the trade condition of Aaron Rodgers?
The Packers’ GM Brian Gutekunst opened up at the NFL’s annual league meetings in Arizona about the current trade conditions of their veteran QB Aaron Rodgers as he stated having initial transparency regarding the contract, albeit it didn’t work out.
“After the season, we had a good conversation and we were going to have some follow-up conversations. And our inability to reach him or for him to respond in any way, I think at that point, I had to do my job and reach out, understanding that a trade could be possible and see(ing) who was interested”, Gutekunst stated.
The Packers’ GM mentioned the “unsuccessful” attempts to reach the NFL star many times this off-season before A-Rod’s representatives told him the QB was requesting a deal. Aaron and Gutekunst met after the Packers’ season ended with an unfortunate defeat to the Detroit Lions, breaking the team’s record of three back-to-back playoff appearances.
“I was really looking forward to the conversations with Aaron to see how he fit into that. Those never transpired. So there came a time where we had to make some decisions, so we went through his representatives to try to talk to him [about] where were we going with our team. At that point, they informed us that he would like to be traded to the Jets”, the Packers’ GM said Monday.
This particular statement collides with the four-time MVP’s statement on the Pat McAfee Show as he stated there he wished the Green Bay Packers had notified him earlier that they were going to move on from him in the 2023 season.
Are the Packers moving toward Love Jordan leaving Rodgers?
Though Gutekunst didn’t speculate on moving toward rookie Love Jordan, his appreciation and confidence in the young QB was almost a direct hint for a potential trade.
“I think it’s really a credit to Jordan how he’s handled that and how professional he’s been through this, him and his representatives. We’ve been in kind of constant communication with them and him, and I think he’s got a really good outlook on this. He understands there’s so much out of his control, but I know he’s really preparing, and I think he’s really excited for this opportunity, and we are, as well”, he added.
It remains to be seen how this will affect the relationship between Rodgers and the Packers organization, however, some major tensions are seriously brewing behind the scenes. Packers fans will no doubt be keeping a close eye on how this situation unfolds in the coming weeks and months.
The Packers’ long-time quarterback Aaron remains one of the most talented players in the NFL, yet, his future with the team is now more uncertain than ever.
