Patrick Beverley, who was picked 42nd overall by the Los Angeles Lakers, is known for being one of the most vocal and intense players in the NBA. While he’s very popular now, he went through some tough rookie moments early in his career. Recently, he remembered one time when Lakers legend LeBron James playfully bullied him.
On a recent episode of his podcast, Patrick Beverley shared funny but tough moments from his rookie season, talking about how LeBron James playfully “bullied” him when he was with the Miami Heat.
Even though Beverley didn’t play a game for the Heat, LeBron still found ways to mess with him. Beverley laughed as he remembered LeBron making him do silly tasks. One example was when LeBron asked him to get a Gatorade.
He recalled, “He’s the one I would cuff. All because your father made me — Oh, the s**t Bron had me doing was wild. I’m talking about, ‘Pat, go get me a Gatorade.’ ‘Cool.’ I come with a red. Everyone likes red.”

Patrick added, “He said, ‘No, I don’t like that color.’ I come back, ‘Okay, cool.’ The second option is blue. Everybody likes blue. ‘No, I don’t like blue, Pat, and I don’t like it cold”
Even though he faced challenges at first, Beverley admitted that he and LeBron eventually developed a mutual respect for each other.
Beverley explains his bond with LeBron James at Heat camp
On the same podcast, Patrick Beverley talked about his special friendship with LeBron James, which started during the Miami Heat training camp in 2010. Beverley shared how LeBron became a mentor and “big brother” to him.
He clarified that during his rookie year, he received advice from LeBron on how to navigate the challenges of the NBA. Beverley recalled those moments of taking advice and reaching out to LeBron for support.
He said, “If there’s anything you can help me, on the court, off the court, I am a sponge man. Whether it is basketball, whether it’s fatherhood, just help me with it.”
