The Kansas City Chiefs recently look to be on cloud nine following back-to-back success in the NFL. The team is enjoying the second-longest streak in AFC history after making five straight AFC Championship Games. Having the veteran quarterback Patrick Mahomes in charge, their success has been rather consistent as the team always seems to end up in or around the Super Bowl.
Nevertheless, to keep up the form and maintain the continued success mission, the Kansas City squad probably should push themselves even harder. One of Mahomes‘ teammates recently shared how the Chiefs have already started their game plan ahead of the new season, somewhat removing fears of arrogance from their recent phenomenal success.
Patrick Mahomes’ teammate highlights the team’s mentality
After starting his NFL career as a third-round pick in the 2018 Draft, the free safety Justin Reid played four years with Houston Texas before landing in Kansas City in 2022. He started all 20 games last season and lifted the Vince Lombardi trophy alongside his two-time MVP QB.
During Aaron Wilson of KRPC 2 Houston, the young star said the Chiefs had already moved on from their recent success and turned their attention to aim for another Super Bowl title, via NFL.com’s Jeremy Bergman.
“Honestly, the page is already turned. We’re out there working, chasing another championship.”
Though the Chiefs won two Championship titles in the last four seasons, the sixth-year defensive back thinks their target is even bigger than last year’s and that they are eyeing to continue the legacy,
“Every year is different. We’ve got an even bigger target on our back than last year. We get to enjoy that moment. As far as the mentality in the room, we’re working to continue this dynasty and what we did last year and not just rest on our laurels.”
As a “play-caller on defense”, Reid recorded seven pass deflections and 83 combined tackles last season after taking over the spot of Tyrann Mathieu. The safety expressed his excitement to continue his effort to ensure ongoing success,
“Where we are right now is light years ahead of where we were last year at this time. It’s really exciting.”
How many times have the Chiefs made the NFL playoffs since 2010?
The Chiefs had been able to secure playoffs nine times since 2010. The franchise secured a total of 20 playoff appearances out of 41 playoff games in its entire history with a 20-21 win-loss record. Kansas City’s last playoff was in 2022 when they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38–35.
Mahomes‘ squad is currently enjoying an incredible streak of eight consecutive NFL Playoff appearances ranging from 2015 to 2022 and has ensured three Super Bowl appearances, winning two Lombardi trophies out of them. The aftermath of their first playoff appearance was a 27-24 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins back in the 1971 season.
