Former New York Giants wide receiver Richie James has signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. His speed and adaptability are now anticipated to give the Chiefs’ offense another dimension and support Patrick Mahomes as he pursues yet another Super Bowl victory.
With Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster leaving, the Chiefs had trouble at wide receiver last season. Tyreek Hill, one of the NFL’s most dynamic receivers, was traded to the Miami Dolphins this offseason, which put the Patricks’ team in trouble once more.
Patrick Mahomes teams’ got the best choice in their wide receiver room
After losing such promising wide receivers, Mahomes and the Kanas City were looking for a different hero, but it was hard for the Chiefs to figure it out. According to NFL Media, the Chiefs and the former New York Giants wide receiver have reached a deal for one year, though the details of the agreement were not immediately made public.
The 27-year-old was selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, with whom he played for three seasons before playing one season for the Giants. In addition to his last year’s 57 receptions for 569 yards, he has a career stat of 95 receptions for 1,258 yards and seven touchdowns.
The WR was forced to sit out the entire 2021 season due to a knee injury that required surgery before joining the Giants, but his injury did not prevent him from proving his value on the field for the Giants.
However, with a career average of 73.6% reception percentage and no seasons with a reception percentage below 60%, the Chiefs have shown great initiative by signing such a dependable receiver.
Getting appropriate support James is capable of scoring more touchdowns and with Patrick Mahomes, on his side, he will indeed become a formidable WR, so it can be said with certainty, he will perform significantly better in the Chiefs’ offensive line-up.
With Richie on their side can the Chiefs win back-to-back titles? Time will tell. What do you think? You can share your opinion with us in the comments.
