Matt Turner has been pretty much ‘ever-present’ for the USMNT since making his debut in 2021 in a friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago. He announced himself in the match, keeping a clean sheet and saving a penalty. He has gone on to make 31 appearances for the USMNT in two years.
Turner’s USMNT career has been nothing short of great. The American international won the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup with the USMNT, claiming the best goalkeeper award in the tournament. He played in all six games for the USMNT, keeping five clean sheets, including one in the final with a 1-0 win over Mexico.
Turner also became the first goalkeeper to keep multiple games for the USMNT at a World Cup since 1930. The goalkeeper has drawn praise from USMNT fans for his penalty heroics last night after a win against Canada.

Matt Turner was the hero for the USMNT in last night’s game against Canada. The match ended in a 2-2 draw in an evenly-contested match that had both teams score in stoppage time. Both teams missed their opening spot kicks in the shootout. Turner then stepped up to save two of Canada’s last four spot kicks, helping the USMNT secure a spot in the semi-final, where they are scheduled to face Panama on Thursday.

Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Mahomes, who has been following the Gold Cup probably due to his wife’s love for the sport, quickly took to Twitter to praise Matt Turner’s penalty heroics that helped the USMNT book a semi-final spot. “Absolute dawg,” the QB tweeted.

The Arsenal goalkeeper did not take long before responding to Mahomes’ tweet. “Let’s go, bro. Love a good dawg fight,” the American goalkeeper wrote. Mahomes will likely want to see Turner in superb form again when the USMNT faces Panama in the semi-final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Thursday.
