Rhamondre Stevenson, the running back for the New England Patriots offense, is a name that any team should be wary of. The team’s former coach, Ivan Fears wants the running back to lead the Patriots this season in recognition of his dominance.
Stevenson was selected by the Patriots with the 120th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and up until that point, the running back had consistently demonstrated his value as a key member of the team’s offensive line.
Rhamondre Stevenson got much support from his team’s former coach as a future leader of the Patriots
Fears spent 25 total seasons with the Patriots and left them in 2022, but prior to his departure he closely observed the 6-foot, 230-pound player’s athleticism. The coach praised Rhamondre as a diligent and open-minded player and said the RB has the potential to take the reins as the team’s leader.
“The kid has worked hard to do the things we’ve asked him to do. To learn, and to prepare, and to train. He’s gotta continue in that mode, because, right now, he’s about to become a leader. He’s the veteran guy in the room. It’s one thing to say you’re gonna lead on Sunday. But, if you’re gonna be successful, you’ve gotta lead every day of the week. And he’s gotta step up in that area. He’s gotta step up to being there when they need him Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,” Ivan said.
With his exceptional physical ability, he broke 16 tackles in just 133 regular-season carries, or one tackle every 8.3 carries. Additionally, it is the second-best rate of its kind in football, trailing only Denver’s Javonte Williams’ (6.5) mark.
RS has undoubtedly catapulted himself into the discussion and has been labeled a “dark horse” to win the Offensive Player of the Year award in 2022 after racking up 558 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground in addition to 32 receptions for 217 yards.
The Patriots had the NFL’s least effective red zone offense and finished 26th in total yards, but the 25-year-old seems to be doing almost everything in his power to elevate his team’s offense.
