Paul George Leaves Court With Hyperextended Knee Injury During Hawks Match

The Philadelphia 76ers’ star forward, Paul George, sustained a lower-body injury during their preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday evening. The Sixers already have difficult hurdles, with Joel Embiid now out for the remainder of the preseason. Losing George would be a huge loss, since he is critical to the team’s success.

According to Gina Mizell of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Paul George suffered a hyperextended left knee during the second quarter of the game and did not return. The injury happened while he was playing defense and stepping back awkwardly.

George, who had just signed a four-year, $212 million deal, had only scored eight points in 12 minutes before leaving.   While the 76ers secured a 104-89 victory, concerns over George’s health overshadowed the win.

The club may choose to rest him until the regular season in order to give him time to fully heal, considering there are only two preseason games remaining. It remains to be seen how the 76ers will manage without him in the upcoming preseason games.

Nick Nurse comments on Paul George’s injury

Right after the game, 76ers head coach Nick Nurse addressed the timing of George’s injury. He said, “Certainly trying to work him into things, and he wants to work into things too. So this doesn’t give him a chance to do that. Hopefully, it’ll be OK so he’s back with us right away.”

Paul George appeared to be walking regularly and wearing a sleeve on his left knee, suggesting that his injury may not be too severe. The 76ers are also dealing with Joel Embiid’s knee troubles, which will keep him out for the rest of the preseason.

With the regular season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks approaching, the team hopes both George and Embiid will be ready to play.
