Just a few days back, the football world woke up to the awakening of Jose Mourinho’s dismissal as Roma’s manager after the club appointed Danielle De Rossi as interim manager. A massive fan-favourite, Mourinho’s dismissal came as a shock to many.
Just as football fans were recovering from Mourinho’s sacking, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp dropped another bombshell, announcing that he is going to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. Klopp’s announcement comes as an even bigger surprise given how he managed to rejuvenate Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola vowed to continue leading Manchester City
Amidst the news of Klopp leaving Liverpool, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was asked if he is going to continue in his position, to which he responded, “I’m fine. There’s still one more year, I want to do it – and maybe I will extend. I try to manage. What we did last season, we have to do more and more now.”
Pep Guardiola signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City in 2023 which would see him continue his all-conquering run with Manchester City until 2025. However, Pep seemed to acknowledge Klopp’s decision as he said, “All the managers will feel tired when you’ve done many years, I feel it completely. I felt it at Barcelona, so I understand it completely.”
Pep Guardiola praises his ‘best rival’ Jürgen Klopp
Pep, when asked about Jurgen Klopp as rival, was quick to praise the 56-year-old German coach. He said, “Personally he has been my biggest rival from when he was at Dortmund, and I was at Bayern Munich. He will be missed, personally I will miss. I am pleased because without him I will sleep a little bit better the night before we play against Liverpool! But I wish him all the best.“
Klopp, who has won the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and Super Cup with Liverpool, is now considered as one of the best managers in the world. His rivalry with Pep Guardiola has been one of the highlights of the Premier League for the past few years.
Klopp won Liverpool their first league title in over 30 years and was key in creating stars such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Trent-Alexander Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and so on. In the past few years, Jurgen was the only person who was able to match Pep’s City.
