The San Francisco 49ers had one of the best seasons this year and the credit for this massive success goes to QB Brock Purdy. At the start of the season, there were rumors that the team might sign retired NFL GOAT Tom Brady, but they continued with Brock Purdy.
However, Brock Purdy recently talked about this season and shared that the 49ers were ready to make a move to sign Tom Brady.
49ers HC wanted Tom Brady to unretire in the offseason
ESPN’s Nick Wagoner shared that the head coach of the team, Kyle Shanahan, told Brock Purdy that if he recovers from his elbow injury, he will get the starting QB role.
However, if Tom Brady accepts to join the team, then Purdy will need to wait a little.
“Early in the offseason, Niners coach Kyle Shanahan sat down with Purdy and assured him that if he was healthy he would be the starter unless Brady wanted to play,” Wagoner wrote.
The 49ers QB Brock Purdy even accepted this offer and shared that he was ready to give up his position. The QB accepted this offer considering the difference Tom Brady could make for the team but he was disappointed.
“I remember him saying, if we can get Tom Brady, we’re going to try to get him. And I was like, ‘Yeah, he’s the GOAT. I get it.’ But something deep down inside me was sort of like, ‘Dude, I just showed you that I can play well in this system. And we were one game away from the Super Bowl.’”
Kyle Shanahan couldn’t persuade Tom Brady to join the team and Brock Purdy continued as the starting QB. This decision proved to be beneficial for the team considering the exceptional season they had with Brock Purdy.
Tom Brady to jump into NFL analyst role in 2024
Tom Brady has officially retired from the NFL and since his retirement, the former QB embarked on multiple business ventures. However, the major route the seven-time Super Bowl champion had to pursue was his role as an NFL analyst.
It was expected that he would become an analyst for FOX in 2024 for which he also received a warning. As the year has already started, fans can look forward to watching the former QB soon as an analyst.
Tom Brady has signed a massive 10-year deal with Fox worth $375 million in 2022. During a recent episode of his podcast, “Let’s Go!,” Brady shared more about future plans.
“I’ve got a big broadcasting job that’s going to start in September,” Brady told co-host Jim Gray. “I’m already working hard on trying to make sure I’m ready for that opportunity and I’m prepared mentally and emotionally for that challenge.”
Tom Brady never worked as an analyst; therefore, the anticipation of watching the NFL legend as an analyst is increasing. Exact details of Brady’s role are not yet disclosed but Brady’s NFL career is a testament to his determination and commitment to his work. He will surely succeed in this field as well.
