The Tennessee Titans made a splash in the free agency period of the offseason by re-signing their defensive tackle, Jeffery Simmons, with a hefty paycheck that made him one of the top-earning athletes in the league.
Jeffery joined the Titans after being picked 19th overall in the 2019 NFL draft and subsequently signed a four-year, $12.66 million rookie contract. Later, in April last year, they activated the fifth-year clause in the rookie contract to keep him from being traded off.
However, as the initial rookie contract is over, the defensive tackle is eligible on the market, and the Titans couldn’t take any chances to lose him anymore.
What deal has Jeffery Simmons signed with the Titans?
The 25-year-old star signed a $94 million, four-year contract extension deal with the Titans, and that made him the second highest-earning interior defensive lineman in the league after Los Angeles Rams Aaron Donald.
The massive deal includes $66 million in guaranteed cash, a $24 million signing bonus, and a fifth-year option. With an annual salary of $23.5 million, the two-time pro bowler will earn $104.75 million in five years.

Both parties went through extensive measures of negotiation over the last couple of weeks, and the extension couldn’t be more exquisite. The Conerley Trophy winner’s impressive performance in the last two seasons propelled him to a colossal payday.
The DT made 21 sacks and completed 109 solo tackles with 19 passes defended in his four-year journey with the Titans. In the meantime, he was named to the Second Team All-Pro list twice. Before his professional career, he played for the Mississippi State Bulldogs football team for three years at the college level.
How did Simmons react to the jaw-dropping deal?
Simons was overwhelmed and out of this world excited about his contract extension and expressed it in a social media frenzy. He took it to Twitter and expressed his gratitude by saying, “Titans Nation, thank you for the last 4 years! I am so grateful for you guys…..”
