In a recent tweet, quarterback Lamar Jackson broke the silence surrounding the rumors of his trade with the Baltimore Ravens by claiming that he has informed the team of his desire to be traded.
The QB became the youngest NFL MVP ever in 2019 after throwing for 3,127 yards, 36 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, additionally, also surpassed Michael Vick’s previous mark for the most rushing yards by a quarterback in an NFL season during that same season.
Why did the Ravens add a ‘Non-franchise tag” on Lamar Jackson?
In the 2018 NFL Draft, Jackson was selected by the team in the first round, and in 2021, they decided to exercise his fifth-year option for the 2023 season. Guaranteed money has been the main sticking point in the deal that the Baltimore Ravens and Jackson have been negotiating for well over a year.
Deshaun Watson signed a five-year, $230 million contract with the Cleveland Browns in the offseason, and Jackson reportedly tried to outbid that offer in negotiations. However, the Ravens did not accept this offer, in a result, the -26-year-old was given the non-exclusive franchise tag by the Baltimore Ravens on March 7, allowing LJ to engage in negotiations with other teams.
What did Jackson say regarding the Ravens?
The former Ravens player recently clarified any misunderstandings about his relationship with the team in a tweet, thanking all of his supporters for sticking by him first.
“A letter to my fans. I want to first thank you all for the love and support you consistently show towards me. All of you are amazing and I appreciate y’all so much. I want you all to know not to believe everything you read about me. Let me personally answer your questions,” Lamar stated.

Later, the quarterback revealed shocking information, saying that he genuinely wanted to be a part of the team but that, as Jackson has made clear, he and the Ravens’ key decision-makers disagree about his worth. It is evident from his statement that he was not pleased with the Ravens, and he also expressed his passion for leading the team to the Super Bowl.
Finally, the smiley face indicated that his future career would involve a family business.
“As of March 2nd I requested a trade from the Ravens organisation for which the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value, any and everyone that’s has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the Super Bowl. You all are great but I had to make a business decision that was best for my family and I. No matter how far I go or where my career takes me, I’ll continue to be close to my fans of Baltimore Flock nation and the entire State of Maryland. You’ll see me again.”
The quarterback’s tweet had already made his followers sad, albeit, they reassured him that they respected his decision and would always support him.
