Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid’s midfield sensation, played a pivotal role in spoiling the party for Barcelona in the recent El Clásico clash on Saturday. His stunning brace ignited a comeback from a goal deficit, leading Madrid to a triumphant 2-1 victory.
Bellingham’s stellar performance shone in Madrid’s remarkable comeback win over Barcelona. The 20-year-old has won the 2023 Kopa Trophy in addition to finishing 18th in the Ballon d’Or 2023 rankings, following his witty response to silence his critics.
Madrid’s Jude Bellingham secures Kopa Trophy
The English international is off to a brilliant start at Real Madrid, setting new records and surpassing the goal-scoring tally of former Real Madrid legends. He was awarded the Kopa Trophy in the French capital on Monday evening.
Bellingham became the first-ever English international to win the Kopa Trophy and the fifth player since its inception in 2018. It is an award given to the best U21 player in the world following the nominations chosen by the votes of former Ballon d’Or awardees.
This trophy recognizes Jude Bellingham’s last season’s performance with England and Borussia Dortmund after narrowly missing out on the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich. However, on this occasion, he has surpassed Bayern Munich’s wonder kid Jamal Musiala to secure the best player award.
The Kopa Trophy had been previously awarded to the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Pedri, Gavi, and Mathias De Ligt. Now, the Real Madrid sensation becomes the fifth U21 star to lift the title, ahead of his Madrid teammates Eduardo Camavinga and Musiala.
Bellingham silences critics with brilliant response
The 20-year-old chose the Spanish capital as his next destination to flourish as a player. Bellingham moved to Real Madrid from the German outfit Borussia Dortmund after the Whites paid a record transfer fee of £115 million for a British player this summer, making it the most talked-about transfer of the year.
He is the club’s top scorer this season with 13 goals in as many games, recently silencing critics who labeled him a ‘Tap-in-Merchant’ for his close-range goals with a brilliant response.
Real Madrid added a video on social media of Jude discussing his goals with a witty caption saying, ‘Our tap-in merchant’. He said, “I’ll probably say the first one. I can imagine everyone battering me for the second one; I know I get a lot of grief about scoring tap-ins.”
The English midfielder has received lavish praise from his Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, after the victory over FC Barcelona, thanks to an added-time match-winning goal in La Liga, ensuring his debut El Clásico win.
