Red Bull boss clarifies Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez’s “open and honest” relationship despite rumors of tension

Max Verstappen owes his maiden championship victory to his novice teammate Sergio Perez. If we stroll down memory lane, we will be reminded of Perez’s brave defence against Lewis Hamilton, which increased Max’s gap and ultimately got him the title.

Red Bull has always been in a spot where they cause a rift between the drivers. Whether between Max and Daniel, Max and Gasly, or even Max and Albon. The common factor here is Max Verstappen which makes us wonder if he is a bad teammate.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez maintain a healthy relationship

After the incident that took place after the Austrian sprint race, the media was eager to jump to the conclusion that Max and Perez would start fighting now. Sadly for the media folks, both the drivers handled it maturely and talked about the same immediately after the race had concluded. Verstappen said he believed Sergio and Sergio genuinely apologised.

Christian says, “Checo said he didn’t see it, and Max believes him. They discussed it in our team meeting and understood the situation.” Horner has also told multiple times to the media that both Verstappen and Perez “have an open and honest relationship”.

Is Verstappen and Perez’s car the same?

According to Paul Monaghan, chief engineer of Red Bull Racing, there aren’t any differences between the cars Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez drove. He further commented,

“The cars are the same; whatever you need, we’ll do everything we can to support and accompany you, and who knows, maybe I’ll end up on the podium here and win in Montreal. It’s not like we will change our approach or anything like that. We treat pilots fairly and support them to the best of our ability. Nothing’s going to change. It’s one of those things, isn’t it?” When asked about the differences in the cars driven by both drivers.

Red Bull’s boss claims that they have a phenomenal car and they have got two great drivers. According to him, Max is continuing to evolve as a driver, which is why he is becoming increasingly polished. He also reported that Max’s capacity within the car is truly impressive when put against Checo.

It would have been incredibly hard for Max Verstappen to assert dominance if he did not have such a strong teammate like Sergio Perez. However, the Mexican needs to pull up his socks now. He needs to provide more competition as Max pulls away with a tremendous lead in the driver’s standings. Comment and let us know if you think their relationship is as “open and honest” as Horner claims it to be.
