Rekkles’ unprecedented move to join T1’s Challengers team has given fans something to talk about. It has given a paradigm shift to the dynamic 2024 League of Legends off-season. The news gained recognition through an interview with Daily Esports’ Kim Yong-woo, where Rekkles gave insights into his decision.
Rekkles is known for having reached both 1,000 and 2,000 kills in the LEC and being the European player with the most pentakills. His experience and dedication make him an outstanding player. But his current decision to join T1 as a support has left his fanbase shocked and shattered.
Rekkles explains why he joined T1 over staying in Europe
“I was looking forward to it since the time Becker contacted me in mid-October. I was contacted by other teams at a similar time, and, after speaking with him, I felt like I really wanted to take on the challenge. I think I’m the kind of person who wants to take on every opportunity or challenge that comes my way,” said Rekkles.
Despite all his cultural and language barriers in Korea, he felt welcomed on the team. He seems to have faith in this big decision and believes in committing wonders as “support” for T1.
“My dream scenario with this position change is that , if I could play in any part of the world, it would be to play for T1 in Korea”. Rekkles expressed he was excited to be a part of the team he always dreamt about.
Rekkles’ T1 Academy contract is longer than planned
Recently, T1 surprised the esports industry by adding Rekkles as a support for the upcoming LCK CL season in its academy roster.
Having one of the longest careers since its start in 2012, Rekkles has maintained a substantial fan following in the League of Legends community. According to the recent disclosure by GDC, Rekkles’ contract spans two years, concluding on November 17, 2025. While this unconventional decision has put the whole industry to shock, Reckles, along with his encouraging fanbase, is optimistic about his strategic move.
The extended timeline aligns with T1’s strategic objective of providing Rekkles ample experience to excel in his new role. The two-year contract affords additional negotiation leverage to T1, facilitating the recovery of its investment over time.
“I did it because I thought it would give me the highest chances of succeeding. It wasn’t anything to do with money or fame or creating chaos — I have always just sought the victory, sought the success,” explained Rekkles. “It helps to feel that I keep making these decisions based on the fact that I think it’s what’s going to get me the furthest in terms of success and victories, not in terms of anything else because that’s who I am.” These were the words of Rekkles when he decided to play for G2.
Thus, this has always been the mindset of this undisputed Swedish player. He believes in himself and so does the whole community.
