Our confidential sources informed us that the NBA big man, Miles Bridges, was detained for felony domestic abuse. The 24-year-old, who most recently represented the Charlotte Hornets, is accused of getting into a physical altercation with a female.
According to jail records from Los Angeles County, Bridges was detained by the LAPD on Wednesday afternoon. Bridges’ bail was set at roughly $130,000 and was later discharged.
What are the alleged charges?
According to district attorney George Gascon, his office filed two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to result in serious bodily injury or death, as well as one criminal offense of harming a child’s parent.
According to the DA’s release, the case “includes an allegation of causing great bodily injury on the domestic violence victim.” The DA’s announcement stated that the children were present during the alleged attack but did not elaborate on the child abuse charges.
Can the allegations turn into an attempted homicide case?
His girlfriend, Michelle Johnson, has accused him of committing the crimes. As a result of the attempted assault on June 27 and 28, at a home in Los Angeles, she also published gruesome photos of her injuries.
Johnson had previously been quiet on the subject. On her official social media handles, she alleged that Bridges had choked her to the point of unconsciousness before punching her in the face. The incident left her traumatized and with a concussion. However, the children were unharmed and there is no sign of the allegations turning into a homicide case yet.
What would be the outcome if proven convicted?
If found guilty of the criminal accusations brought against him, Bridges would suffer severe repercussions and possibly be sentenced to several years in jail. Domestic violence is a pervasive phenomenon.
The survivors experience long-lasting consequences, including cognitive, bodily, and psychological distress. According to Los Angeles District Attorney Gascón, children who witness domestic abuse are unusually fragile and suffer a permanent concussion.
How will the accusations impact Miles Bridge’s NBA career?
The case reflects a critical eye on the NBA’s entire domestic violence policy, but the league has not yet commented. The Hornets are separating themselves from Bridges while the legal procedure is underway in the only official statement made by any NBA entity.
“The Charlotte Hornets are aware of the situation involving Miles Bridges. We are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time,” the team said in a statement released Thursday.
