Robert Lewandowski future: What’s next for Barcelona forward amid transfer rumors?

Robert Lewandowski has been one of the few consistent performers for the Blaugrana in the past few years. However, with him turning 36 this summer, talks about his future have resurfaced.

Barcelona is currently in dire need of cash, as they need to raise at least a minimum of 100 million euros to participate in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski’s future at Catalonia seems bleak, as his form and performances have taken a dip.

It would be no surprise if Barcelona sold Robert Lewandowski to make room for further funds as they continue to navigate another difficult season due to the Financial Fair Play restrictions of La Liga. Going by the league’s “4:1” rule, Barcelona need to raise at least a minimum of 100 million euros if they want to purchase new player in the upcoming summer.

In such a context, they would need to sell one of their first 11 players, including Robert Lewandowski. There already have been stories circulating that Lewandowski might find himself in the Saudi Pro League sooner rather than later, and with Vitor Roque having arrived at Barcelona as his potential replacement, Barcelona could look to sell their main striker.

Lewandowski however has said, “I feel very good in the city, my family too, we are very happy…It is one of the objectives, to play at the Camp Nou again. It’s a magical stadium, a magical pitch, and yes, of course, I want to play there.”

Xavi has always backed his striker but with him leaving the club at the end of the season, it remains to be seen if Lewandowski is a part of Barca’s future plans or not.

What’s Robert Lewandowski current contract with Barcelona?

Robert Lewandowski arrived from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022. In his time at Bayern, the Polish established as a formidable goal-poacher with 344 goals and 73 assists. Although he has not been able to perform up to his standards, Lewandowski has been effective for Barcelona nonetheless, with 61 goal contributions in 77 appearances.

Lewandowski is currently under contract with Barcelona until the 2024/25 season with an option to extend it for another season, earning an annual salary of 10 million euros that can rise to 13 million euros in the long run before expiration. Removing such hefty wages from the books would be a wise move if Lewandowski is no longer suited for the highest level.
