The Combat Sports world has seen strange matchups from time to time. Usually, these fights are scheduled for promotional, charity, or send-off purposes. But the Roy Jones Jr vs Anthony Pettis match for the promotion of Gamebred Boxing seems to be one of the most bizarre ones yet.
Jorge Masvidal talked about this fight, “I’ve always been a fan of Roy Jones. Always wanted to work with Roy Jones in some capacity. He’s going to be fighting someone that inspired me in my career numerous times. WEC champion, and UFC champion, I think both his wins for the UFC title were finishes.
This guy has knockouts and finishes at 145, 155, and 170, it’s crazy what this guy has done in his career in MMA. Great striker.
He further added, “He agreed to fight the walking, living legend, the pound-for-pound king, one of the best fighters, athletes, I’ve ever seen in combat sports, period, versus Anthony Pettis.”

Gamebred broke the news saying, BREAKING NEWS Roy Jones Jr will be fighting Anthony Pettis on Saturday, April 1st, 2023 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the Fiserv Forum on Gamebred Boxing 4. Tickets go on sale at noon on February 17th.
Why is Roy Jones Jr vs Anthony Pettis significant?
Freakshow matchups seem to be the new trend in boxing. When Logan Paul boxed Jake Paul and Jake boxed another Youtuber, everybody thought this whole thing was a joke that would run out quickly. But the trend did not stop and only grew worse and worse with time.
While Logan took a break after his draw against Floyd Mayweather and had to seemingly retire from boxing following a WWE injury. His younger brother went on to fight the likes of Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley (Twice), and even Ben Askren.
Pettis is currently 36 years old while Roy Jones Jr is 54 years!
