Ryan Garcia finally made his return to the boxing ring at the start of this month. After facing a big setback in April this year against Gervonta Davis, fans already started doubting his ability to make a comeback after the knockout loss.
KingRy once again became the hot topic once he defeated Oscar Duarte in the 8th round of the 12-round fight on December 2nd, and speculations have been going around regarding who Garcia’s next opponent will be. It seems Ryan Garcia is looking to tie down the boxing gold belt on his waist this time. Within 3 months, he is expecting to make his return to the boxing ring.
Ryan Garcia dismisses Rolly Romero bout proposal
After the latest victory, the topic of Garcia’s next opponent has become something that can’t be missed during any interaction with the media. Ryan Garcia is not on good terms with his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, but both client and boss maintain their professional work ethics while the fight is going on. Now even WBA super lightweight champion Rolly Romero has shown interest in having a boxing bout against Garcia, putting his title on the line.
But earlier, Ryan Garcia publicly expressed his interest in fighting Devin Haney, also giving Romero a hint that work is still in progress. But it looks like Rolly is late to make a call, as Garcia claimed to be booked for the next matchup now.
The 25-year-old said on his recent tweet, “I’m sorry Rollies you and your team work way to slow and you were way to indecisive 🤷♂️ i didn’t know if you wanted to box or vacation. Devin Haney and I are in negotiations respect that. I’m not entertaining anything. Thanks”
Garcia also mentioned Rolly’s team’s slowness in making announcements related to his next match-up negotiations.
How many times have Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney fought each other?
Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney aren’t fighting for the first time in boxing, but they have fought more times than fans would expect. Garcia and Haney both hail from California, so it must not be shocking for fans that they have encountered each other many times during their amateur days.
“This will actually be the 7th fight between us. It’s only right it’s on the professional stage 🙏 Thank you Lord Jesus. It’s time to RUMBLE”, Ryan Garcia wrote Twitter.
The tweet KingRy just posted on his Twitter ‘X’ handle clearly shows that both sides are interested in making the settlement. On March 9, both parties are expected to reach a final agreement in their seventh fight, as Garcia previously stated. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya, earlier this year, mentioned how his clients collided in the boxing ring six times already, and the scores are tied 3-3 for both of them.
Oscar mentioned, “They’re 3-3. They fought each other six times, and they’re 3-3, so let’s settle the score in the pros.” It was during their amateur phase that Ryan Garcia and Haney fought six times. Now it will be interesting to see who has the best outcome after their collision in boxing for the seventh fight.
Haney also mentioned their rivalry history in one of the interviews per Dan Rafael, “We boxed a lot in the amateurs, so we have a lot of history. He’s always been my rival; it’s always been him and me going at it. I think I was nine in our first fight, and he was my second to last amateur fight.”
Garcia and Haney’s rivalry may come to an end on March 9, 2024, but Rolando Romero will be keeping his eyes on the bout as well.
Who do you think will be the winner between Ryan Garcia and undefeated Devin Haney? And should the winner be fighting against Rolly Romero for one more championship fight?
