Ryan Garcia made his comeback last week after suffering a loss in April of this year. Garcia had not faced defeat until March of this year. The loss against Gervonta Davis put him in a dilemma, with fans questioning his comeback.
“The Mexican Lion” shut out all the critics last week after knocking out Oscar Duarte and winning the vacant WBA light welterweight title. It was an 8th-round finish, marking his return to the winning path. The match was dramatic, with the crowd consistently booing Garcia for the first five rounds.
Ryan Garcia plans to fight Devin Haney.
Now ahead of Saturday’s 140-pound title fight where Devin Haney will compete against Regis Prograis, Ryan Garcia made a tweet calling out Haney. First, Garcia said on his posted tweet, “Down to fight the winner,” but after a few minutes, he decided to make a clear call out where Devin is stated to be his target in the boxing ring next year.
Ryan tweeted, “One thing that is certain in my eyes is that Haney and I will fight in 2024. You can hold me to it unless it’s not in God’s will.” Garcia is on the verge of taking revenge against Davis, who caused him to register his first ever professional career loss, with some more opponents to target next year. “Ryking” also had faith that the 25-year-old boxer would win the upcoming bout when he answered Hans Themistode’s question about boxing.
Garcia said, “He just knows what he’s doing in there. I like his game. I think his game is going to be too much for Regis. I just don’t think he’s sharp enough to beat Devin Haney,” regarding his next bout against Prograis, via Bleacherreport.
Ryan Garcia plans to fight Rolly Romero in March.
However, before facing Haney, Ryan Garcia has his eyes set on March 2024. Rolly Romero can be the next target for last week’s main event winner. Considering Haney’s recovery time, Rolly being the next opponent for Garcia can set the season-starting fireworks for the new WBA light welterweight champion.
Garcia’s tweet, “I’m fighting in March, so I don’t think Haney can run it back in time, but I’m open to it. It makes sense for Rolly and me to run it in March.”
It’s pretty clear that Romero and Devin are both targeted for next year. Winning both fights can hint at his revenge fight against Gervonta at the end of 2024.
