In a remarkable display of resilience, New Orleans Saints tight end Foster Moreau has returned to the field after a challenging battle with cancer, earning high praise from quarterback Derek Carr.
While Carr’s praises might give Moreau an extra boost returning to the field for some much-awaited training sessions, Fosters fans will also be over the moon to see their favorite TE back in business!
When was Foster Moreau diagnosed?
Foster Moreau was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019. He was considering continuing his professional football career in his hometown when Dr. John Amoss, the team physician for the New Orleans Saints, discovered an enlarged lymph node in Moreau’s left clavicle in late March.
Following this discovery, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, prompting him to initially announce a pause in his NFL career to prioritize his health.
What type of cancer did Foster Moreau have?
Foster Moreau has a rare form of cancer called nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL). Fortunately, this type of cancer is highly treatable.
Moreau underwent treatment, which included a six to eight-hour drip infusion followed by several weeks of medication, either taken orally or injected into his stomach area. His treatment concluded the day before he signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints.
Is Foster Moreau coming back?
Before his diagnosis, Foster Moreau had considered the possibility of playing for the New Orleans Saints. He has signed a three-year, $12 million contract with the Saints.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to join the Saints, emphasizing that he does not take it for granted. Additionally, signing with the Saints meant reuniting with his former Raiders teammate and friend, Derek Carr, who had also joined the Saints during free agency.
Derek Carr’s comment on Moreau’s
return
Derek Carr, the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, expressed his joy at seeing tight end Foster Moreau on the practice field during Saints OTAs, just two months after Moreau’s cancer diagnosis.
Carr acknowledged the seriousness and fear associated with such news and commended the tight end for his resilience in returning to the field so soon.
“I don’t want to undersell what that man just walked through, you know? That’s pretty scary news and a pretty scary thing to go through, and for him to be out there already? I’m not getting into his business, but it’s pretty, pretty, pretty miraculous,” Carr told reporters when asked about Moreau practicing with the Saints.
