The salary cap is something every NFL team must manage, or it could cause big problems in the future. Right now, the New Orleans Saints are in the worst cap situation in the entire league.
They are about $60 million over the limit, which is a huge problem. To fix this, rumors say NOLA might trade or cut quarterback Derek Carr to save some amount of money.
Derek Carr signed a big four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints after leaving the Las Vegas Raiders. But he hasn’t played well enough to match that pay. He has a record of 14 wins and 13 losses in two seasons with the Saints.
After missing the playoffs for four years in a row, the pressure is on General Manager Mickey Loomis to make changes. Rumors say they may replace Derek Carr, which would be a big change for the team under new coach Kellen Moore.

The question is, who will take his place? According to Nick Igbokwe of Sportskeeda, it might be New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is his top suggestion.
He said, “Aaron Rodgers is a four-time MVP and one of the most (if not the most) accurate QBs in the game’s history. Rodgers is fresh off two disappointing seasons with the New York Jets and he’ll be a free agent ahead of the 2025 regular season.”
Derek Carr willing to restructure contract to help Saints
Even though there are rumors about trading Derek Carr, he has said he is ready to change his contract to help the New Orleans Saints with their salary cap problems.
The plan would be to lower his $30 million salary to the minimum allowed by the league and turn the extra amount into a signing bonus.

Carr told ESPN, “I’ll always help the team that way. But there’s some things that you put out there that you earned… We’re good. Build the team.’ But yeah, I wouldn’t take anything less to do this.”
