UFC superstar Sean O’Malley has risen to stardom in just 8 years, now holding the bantamweight championship. ‘Suga’ Sean defeated Aljamain Sterling in the second round to claim the bantamweight title.
Now atop the mountain, O’Malley faces numerous contenders, each posing a unique threat. Sean is gearing up for a bout against Marlon Vera this Saturday, with other fighters like Umar Nurmagomedov knocking on his door.
Sean O’Malley thinks Umar Nurmagomedov got talent to be successful in UFC
O’Malley recently appeared on ESPN to talk about some subjects. He shared his thoughts on Umar Nurmagomedov, saying, “I believe Umar is a potential superstar. Literally because he has the last name Nurmagomedov……There’s something there, if he can become a star that’s the fight I want.”
O’Malley emphasizes how Umar can truly become a star if he continues winning his fights. He states that he is not afraid of facing the toughest opponents, but they must also have the potential for lucrative PPV sales. O’Malley is now fully focused on participating in the biggest fights with the most significant paydays.
Sean O’Malley rips at Marlon Vera
As O’Malley and Vera’s showdown gets near, so does the tension and the drama along with it. In his ESPN interview, Sean takes a dig at his opponent and talks about how Chito wouldn’t have been offered a title shot, had Sean not been the champion. He only got the shot as O’Malley chose him. Sean went on to say, “If he can make it close enough, I can offer him the title shot. Just close enough, and I’ll give him the rematch.”
Sean claims to have “gifted” the title shot to Marlon Vera. However, it is now the chance for Vera to use this gift in his favor and seize the bantamweight throne, closing out his rivalry with O’Malley. Otherwise, Sean O’Malley will look to cement his legacy as the best bantamweight in the world by rectifying his only career defeat.
UFC 299 will take place this Saturday at the famous Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. Be sure to tune in to witness a fierce battle between two arch-rivals, Sean O’Malley and Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera.
