The UFC and its worldwide fanbase are no strangers to witnessing fighters who bring something “different” to the table, but none are as unhinged as Sean Strickland. Every time he has appeared for an interview or made a public appearance, his tendency to hold nothing back has consistently captured headlines.
After years of not being able to reach the pinnacle of the sport, Strickland turned his life, as well as the MMA world, around when he defeated Israel Adesanya for the middleweight strap. However, in his last appearance, he lost a razor-thin title bout to the current champion, Dricus Du Plessis.
Sean Strickland attacks Jake Paul for fighting Mike Tyson
As already stated, Strickland never bats an eye before expressing his purely unfiltered opinions on any subject or any person, regardless of whom it offends or the consequences it carries. With the recent explosion in the fight world with the announcement of Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson, Strickland blasted Paul over partaking in this fight and addressed him as “a disgrace of a man.”
The former middleweight champion expressed complete disapproval for Paul fighting a 58-year-old Mike Tyson, much like most critics. He even went as far as to say, “If I ever encounter you in real life, I just hope I don’t lose my s**t and go to prison.” Strickland has taken his fair share of shots at Paul before, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see the pair square off in the future.
Sean Strickland opens up about his mental health
In addition to his charismatic persona and no-holds-barred fighting style, Sean Strickland’s backstory has made him an even bigger fan favorite. He has been vocal about the challenging childhood he endured, living in a household with an abusive father and facing other tragedies.
However, recently, Sean Strickland uploaded another one of his beloved rant videos in his car, but it was not the same. Unlike entertaining fans with roasting other people or addressing important subjects, Strickland opened up on his current mental state.
Sean said, “I woke up and I told my girl, I was like, ‘Babe, I feel like a danger to people. I don’t feel like I should be out in the world.’ And I think that, you know, I have everything — I’m rich, I’m famous. Like, I have everything I’ve ever f****** wanted, and I still am mentally unwell.”
The rather toughened character of Sean Strickland that he has always portrayed is a major contrast to his vulnerable self that he has been able to express after so long. It is wished upon Strickland that he gets better through all he’s facing and get back in the octagon as good as ever.
