Sergio Ramos in tears upon his return to Sevilla after 18 years

Sergio Ramos is one of this era’s most fearsome and fearless defenders. With countless accolades, including 5 La Liga titles, 4 Champions Leagues, 2 Euros, and a World Cup, he is also one of the best there has ever been. He is also known for his relentless and aggravating tackles that earned him second place in the list of most career red cards.

Ramos’s professional footballing journey started 18 years ago. Before Real Madrid came along and stole him, Sergio Ramos used to play for Sevilla. After becoming a free agent, the 37-year-old has made a return to his boyhood club, and he was full of emotions on his return.

Sergio Ramos breaks down in tears

Sergio Ramos’s professional career started at Sevilla. He used to be a part of the club’s youth academy and finally made it to the main team in 2003. After being linked with the club for 3 years, he left to join Madrid at 19 years of age where he became a fan favourite winning four Champions League and earning the title of “Captain Fantastic”.

Ramos stayed at Real Madrid for 16 years and then joined PSG in 2021 where he won two Ligue 1 titles. After 18 years of glory, the player is back where it all started and the fans couldn’t be happier.

“Sergio arrived at our youth academy at the age of seven and progressed through the youth ranks until he made his debut in the first reserve team at the age of 16 in the 2002-03 season,” Sevilla said.

During his presentation at the club’s stadium, 23,000 people came to cheer his name. This made him emotional and the defender burst into tears. Journalist Fabrizio Romano also posted a video on his Twitter handle captioned “Sergio Ramos, in tears in front of Sevilla fans — back home.”

Looking back at Sergio Ramos’ Sevilla playing days

Sergio Ramos was always the king of the field at Real Madrid, and things were not any different during his time at Sevilla. The defender had an amazing playstyle, his performance in every match was worth watching and he had a thirst for victory. During his time at the club, he played in 39 games and scored 2 goals. Due to his physical gameplay, he also got 9 cards in the two seasons he played for the club.

Ramos came into Madrid’s eye after a game against them in the 2004/05 season where he scored a freekick against Madrid’s star goalkeeper Iker Casillas. This freekick changed his life as Real Madrid signed him in the very next season and he became the player we all know and love today. Ramos made a promise to his dad in 2005 that he would come back to Sevilla once again which he has now completed.

All that is left to see is what he does after returning to La Liga. Sevilla is also set to face Real Madrid in October, and watching Sergio play against his old club will certainly be exciting.
