Fans are mocking Lionel Messi after Paris Saint Germain won a game while the player was suspended following his Saudi vacation stunt.
With a 3-1 victory against Troyes on Sunday night, Paris Saint-Germain increased their advantage atop the Ligue 1 standings to six points. However, Lionel Messi was not present for the game after being suspended for missing training the previous week.
The goals for PSG came from Kylian Mbappe, Vitinha, and Fabian Ruiz in a game that was anything but simple for the league leaders.

It seems certain that Lionel Messi and PSG will part ways this summer, with a host of clubs interested in him. The Argentine had joined in 2021 from longtime club Barcelona but failed to meet expectations. Even though he scored 31 goals and 34 assists in two seasons, he failed to win the Champions League and provide anything different.
Why was Lionel Messi suspended by PSG?
Messi is an ambassador for the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA). To honor his duties under his STA contract, the Argentine had gone to Saudi for a promotional advertisement. But the club said that he missed a training session that was not in the normal schedule but was put as an extra session after PSG’s humiliating 3-1 loss against Lorient. The Parisiens fined and suspended Messi for two weeks’ salaries and suspended him for the same amount of time.
The disciplinary suspension makes it much more unlikely that Messi will continue in Paris. Once his two-year contract ends at the conclusion of this season, he can leave for free. Fabrizio Romano even confirmed that Messi has now already decided to leave PSG at the end of the season. He has already rejected their previous contract renewal offers.
But the humble player did issue an apology video, admitting his mistake. Later on today, he rejoined training though it is unclear whether he will participate in the next match.
Fan reactions
Many fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions on PSG winning the game without Lionel Messi.
Many PSG fans feel that the Argentine was a bad signing for the club and that he has still not contributed anything worthwhile.
One such Twitter user mocked the superstar, “So they win without fifa boy?”

Another said, “PSG are better of without Messi and this is a fact. I thought Messi fans said Veratti and co were not good enough, go and check their ratings against Troyes without Messi”

While a host of other fans pointed out that the victory had nothing to do with Messi’s absence.
One user wrote, “Cause we played against a relegation team lmao?”
Another passionately defended the Argentine, “lol yes fifa boy will win the ligue 1 and also his 8 Ballon D’or then also claim history of the one of the most decorated player too on trophy can’t you see everything is going well for him . Just stop hating and focus on something better ok you can do better”
