When it comes to expenditure in sports, it is hard to rival the Saudis. Having already rocked the football world by announcing themselves with the Saudi Pro League, they continue to dazzle and enthrall sports and football fans, all around the world.
In the recently concluded Riyadh Cup, they pulled no stops as they got one of the biggest names in wrestling- The Undertaker, to present the trophy.
Watch: The Undertaker’s entrance at Al Nassr vs Al Hilal match
Ahead of the final of the Riyadh Cup between Al Hilal and Al Nassr, WWE legend, The Undertaker made an iconic entry that surprised fans and players all over the globe. The Undertaker, who retired from professional wrestling back in 2020, walked out of the tunnel with his iconic entrance music blaring at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh on Thursday.
Just like he does in the WWE, the lights in the stadium went off for The Undertaker while a giant moon was projected on the screen and laser lights flashed through in different directions.
Amid all this, he appeared on the ground and walked through to a stage, with his theme playing all around the stadium. Once he got up on the stage, he unveiled the trophy and lifted it to give everyone a glimpse of the silverware.
The Undertaker in Riyadh Season Cup surprises soccer fans
The Undertaker’s presence shocked football fans and players, both on and off the field.
“I think it’s unexpected for The Undertaker to present a soccer trophy, but it’s interesting to see different figures involved in sports events.”, wrote one fan.
“This is so extra I love it,” quipped another.
Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the many who seemed to have been starstruck by the 58-year-old former wrestling star’s appearance. He just couldn’t stop smiling at the Undertaker’s performance, who made his appearance in the football match as a result of an agreement between WWE and the General Entertainment Authority who are the organisers of the Riyadh Season Cup.
However, things weren’t so nice for Ronaldo as they lost 2-0 to league rivals Al Hilal following goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Salem Al-Dawsari, with Ronaldo failing to make any impact.
Tensions boiled in the later part of the game as some of the fans in the stadium starting chanting “Messi, Messi, Messi”, after being left unimpressed at Ronaldo’s performance. This was Ronaldo’s first appearance since recovering from a muscle issue that had forced Al-Nassr to postpone their pre-season tour of China in January.
Ronaldo previously watched from the sidelines as his team dismantled Messi’s Inter Miami 6-0 in a pre-season friendly earlier this month. Currently, Al-Nassr are second in the Saudi Pro League, seven points behind league leaders Al-Hilal.
