With every passing day of the transfer window, the poker games between the clubs seem to be heating up. After a season of underperformance and heartbreaks, Jurgen Klopp’s men are hopeful to make amends in the upcoming season. The arrivals of Dominik Szoboszlai and the World Cup winner Alexis Macallister have opened the doors for the departure of Jordan Henderson.
The German manager is looking to strengthen in various areas of the pitch but not more so than the midfield department. With the departure of several Premier League players to the Gulf nation, it seems as though the Liverpool captain has set his sights on joining the list.
Al Ettifaq’s bid for Jordan Henderson
After the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Saudi clubs have completed the signings of numerous high-profile players like Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Neves, and Roberto Firmino. Steven Gerrard‘s Al Ettifaq have set their sights on ending the 12-year-stint of Jordan Henderson at the Merseyside club.
Despite Henderson signing a contract extension in 2021, which keeps him at the club until 2025, it seems that the lucrative offer from the Saudi club might tempt him to cut short his current contract.

Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard’s relationship at Liverpool
In 2011, Jordan Henderson was transferred to Liverpool from Sunderland for an undisclosed transfer fee. Later the Englishman made his debut in a 1-1 draw against his former team. In 2015, the English midfielder was made the captain of the club following the departure of Steven Gerrard. During his 12-year stay at Anfield, the central midfielder played 492 times in Liverpool colors, scoring 33 goals and providing 61 assists.
With the arrival of Steven Gerrard as the head coach of Al Ettifaq, he has likely been the driving factor behind the club’s pursuit of the 33-year-old midfielder. Over their illustrious careers, the English duo played 141 matches together for Liverpool and England.
According to multiple reports, Jordan Henderson is set to quadruple his wages if he decided to join the Saudi club. Although the departure of the Englishman cannot be overruled, such a transfer could jeopardize his chances of playing at the European Championships which is going to be held in 2024.
