Kyle McCord was once counted out after transferring from Ohio State last season. But on Friday night, he proved everyone wrong, making his mark as one of the top quarterbacks in college football. He even set a new record for the most passing yards in a single season in the ACC.
Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord broke Deshaun Watson’s ACC single-season passing record in a huge win at the DirecTV Holiday Bowl on Friday night. McCord threw for 453 yards and five touchdowns, leading Syracuse to a 52-35 victory over Washington State.
Before the game, McCord needed 268 yards to surpass Watson’s 2016 record of 4,593 yards. He did it in style, throwing a 50-yard pass to sophomore Darrell Gill Jr., pushing his total to 4,594 yards. McCord finished the season with 4,779 passing yards, almost 200 more than Watson.

McCord, who transferred to Syracuse from Ohio State, has had an amazing season, leading the Orange to a 9-3 record and their first Holiday Bowl appearance since 2018. His incredible performance has now made him one of the top quarterbacks in ACC history.
