Teddy Atlas says Jake Paul “has been every bit of Floyd Mayweather” ahead of Tommy Fury fight

Jake Paul, a YouTuber turned boxer, is set to face Tyson Fury’s half brother Tommy Fury on February 26, 2023, at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.

After the official announcement from the younger Paul, the combat sports fraternity was taken by storm, and everyone was either talking about the fight or the fighters.

Recently, one of the most revered boxing trainers, Teddy Atlas, spoke about the problem child in his podcast, “THE FIGHT with Teddy Atlas,” while comparing him with Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

“He’s almost been an understudy of the great Floyd Mayweather, really, and that’s a positive thing.” Teddy Atlas said about Jake Paul. “We’re not talking about as a fighter. We’re talking about in this business as a businessman, as a matchmaker, as a manager, just as a smart, calculated man. Jake Paul has been every bit of Floyd Mayweather.”

The American trainer even justified his comment by saying that, like Money, the former Disney star is also picky about his opponents and knows how to make a great business out of every fight.

“Floyd was very smart in picking his opponents and just a genius businessman, and Jake Paul is very smart at picking opponents, and he’s a genius businessman. Give him credit. Give him credit, d**nit. It’s the American way. I don’t have a problem with him because he went, got a trainer, he worked his backside off to become the best fighter he could, and he’s still doing it.”

Lastly, Atlas added that there are some people out there who do not respect Jake Paul that much, but as he is trying to be better, he deserves full respect for trying.

“He’s still trying to get better. He’s never gonna be a world-class fighter. We understand that, but he’s gonna be the best he can be, and he’s trying to be the best he can be. He respected the sport enough to go about it the right way.”
