Nick Kyrgios, whose on-court skills have dazzled spectators around. But this Australian athlete is more than simply his stellar tennis resume. He just got a gorgeous tattoo that displays his passion for the well-known Japanese anime and video game series, Pokémon.
Nine recognizable first generation Pokémon characters are depicted in this eye-catching artwork that covers his full-back, winning over tennis fans and Pokémon fanatics alike. Let’s explore the games that Kyrgios enjoys and learn more about the interesting world that exists beyond the tennis court, where Pokémon rules supreme.
Nick Kyrgios shows off the huge tattoo on his back
Tennis icon Nick Kyrgios from Australia who is World’s No. 35 according to ATP rankings missed this year’s Wimbledon because of a wrist injury. He recently shocked his followers by revealing a gigantic new tattoo that spans his entire back. The tattoo features iconic Pokemon characters from the well-known Japanese anime and video game series.
Nine Pokémon from the first generation are depicted in Nick’s tattoo, which included Pokémon like Dragonite, Lapras, Alakazam, Gengar, Snorlax, and Gyarados. Five artists worked on the tattoo, much to the joy of the audience, after an hour of meticulous line work. The unknown is whether it will be in color or black and white, but a distinctive feature struck the eye: Lapras, which is usually blue, is inked in a rare purple tone, maybe implying a sparkly version.
Notably, the tattoo also includes Mewtwo, featured in the Detective Pikachu film, and Charizard, the final evolution of the fire-type Pokemon Charmander. Taking center stage is Blastoise, the ultimate form of the water starter Squirtle, depicted with its signature blasters ready for battle. Nick’s tattoo has left a lasting impression on his fans, adding to his distinct and captivating image in the world of tennis.
Why did Nick Kyrgios withdraw from ATP Washington?
Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the 2023 Citi Open in Washington due to ongoing injury troubles. This might not be a surprise to his fans, as he hasn’t played much since a match at the Stuttgart Open. At first, there were concerns about his knee, which he mentioned during that loss.
Later, even though his knee appeared to be fine, a new wrist issue prevented him from competing at Wimbledon, and it has been a battle ever since. He has now joined the list of athletes who withdrew, which also includes Denis Shapovalov and Daniil Medvedev, despite hopes that he may play in the Washington tournament.
Compared to his outstanding record last year, when he had 46 victories and only 9 losses, Kyrgios has had a poor year. The last time we saw him in tennis-related activities was coaching Frances Tiafoe at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles. Fans are still hopeful he might participate in the US Open, but it’s uncertain at the moment.
