Philander Rodman Jr. is the biological father of NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman. He dwelled in the Philippines since joining the U.S. Air Force in the 1970s and had been estranged from his son for almost 42 years. He launched the Rodman’s Rainbow Obamaburger restaurant on the former American military facility, serving burgers with fries that were the same colors as his son’s hair during his championship runs with the Chicago Bulls.
In 2012, Philander and Dennis met at the Mall of Asia Arena during an exhibition game. The elder Rodman, who has admitted to fathering 29 children from 16 different mothers, attempted to meet his son in the Philippines in another game in 2006.
“It was great,” Philander told The Associated Press following the meeting in 2012. “I’ve been trying to meet him for years. And then last night, boom, I met him. I was really, really happy and very surprised.” “I don’t hate the guy that brought me into this world,” Dennis Rodman said. “The fact is, if I saw him, I’ll just tell him, ‘You know, you’re a friend of mine.'” Philander Rodman Jr. never had the courage to say “Hello son” to the NBA legend. He was guilty of being absent for 42 long years! and wondered if Dennis would ever accept him as his father.
Unfortunately, Rodman and his father were unable to continue their relationship because his father died in Pampanga on July 14th, 2020, at the age of 79, as a result of a long and hard-fought prostate cancer. However, the two had found a way to repair their relationship, with the most significant step being Dennis’ acceptance that Philander was his father.
