Anthony Joshua got the all-important victory this past Saturday after defeating Jermaine Franklin via unanimous decision. After the fight, when bout his future in boxing and who would he like to face if he stays in the game, Joshua asked for some assistance from the 20,000-odd people in the arena. The crowd as expected started chanting Tyson Fury’s name out loud.
Joshua responding to the crowd appeal said, “British boxing, it’s an amazing thing and honestly I do appreciate every single one of you, no banter. I do appreciate every one of you highly. I wish I could come ’round and speak to every one of you… You know me, I try and provide for the fans so whatever the fans want, who the fans want, they said Fury?”
The former heavyweight champion further added that the future of the fight lies in ‘The Gypsy Kings’ hand. “Well the ball’s in his court. I 100 per cent would be honoured to compete for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world. I stand here and say that proudly, that would be an honour. So wherever you are if you’re listening you know my management, you know my promoter, we’ve had dialogue before so let’s hopefully get this on sooner than later. Joshua further added “We’re not getting any younger! I can’t wait to get back to Texas, develop and push on because there’s a bigger fight. I can’t wait to get the next big fight.”
Is Tyson Fury interested in fighting Anthony Joshua?
Although Fury hasn’t officially responded to Joshua’s callout yet, Tyson Fury recently suffered a setback as his mega fight with Ukrainian champ Oleksandr Usyk was called off after various failed negotiation attempts. Over the years ‘The Gypsy King’ has talked about retirement on multiple occasions but has never really walked away from the sport. According to various sources, Fury is not thinking about retirement yet and will possibly face Derek Chisora or former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
With a wide variety of opponents to choose from, it would be really interesting to what Fury decides to do next after achieving all that he has in the sport.
