The Undertaker on WWE’s Shift To Storytelling Under Triple H’s Leadership

The Undertaker recently said that in wrestling, stories are more important than just cool moves. He believes that the strength of today’s WWE stars is not always beneficial. He believes that young people will like stories more than just seeing strong wrestlers.

The Undertaker has a point: while fans enjoy heavy moves, they love the stories behind the wrestlers even more. For instance, the rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre before their Bad Blood battle elevated the intensity of the bout to another level.

Similarly, fans are captivated by the ongoing storyline between Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan, which is filled with mystery and drama. The Bloodline storyline is like a movie, with Roman Reigns playing the villain. WWE can’t run effectively right now without these compelling stories.

On the most recent episode of the Hall of Fame Podcast, he talked about these ideas with Booker T and Brad Gilmore. They compared artists today to performers from his time. He said, “It is completely two different worlds. Never in a million years could I imagine how athletic these guys are today. I don’t know if it was the video games they played as kids, but they’re doing video game type stuff in the ring. I think, sometimes it’s a curse.”

Reflecting on the business perspective the Deadman said, “We love the business and want to continue to see the business grow, but we also have years and years and years of experience…I don’t care how long the business goes on, it’s always going to be, the essence of it is going to be good storytelling. Wrestling isn’t about wrestling moves, it’s not. It’s about storytelling. We use wrestling moves to help tell the story, but it’s not about all of that.”

The Undertaker hails GUNTHER as a classic wrestler

On the latest episode of the Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker praised WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER, calling him a true “throwback” wrestler. He mentioned how GUNTHER doesn’t rely on flashy moves but keeps it real with hard-hitting, believable action.

Moreover, recently on the Hall of Fame Podcast, Deadman expressed that a match between GUNTHER and Brock Lesnar would push GUNTHER to new heights, as Lesnar has a way of bringing out the best in his opponents.

The Undertaker said, “Gunther would be on another level if he could wrestle Brock. The peak that Lesnar could take him to would make him untouchable… Working with a beast like Brock would push him to limits that I’m not sure are on the roster right now.”
