The mother of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, Lisa Wilson, has spoken out against false rumors about her family’s relationship with Jets owner Woody Johnson.
In a recent radio interview, host Michael Kay speculated that the Wilson family had a close relationship with Johnson while commenting on whether or not the Jets will hold on to Zach next season following his poor performances this season.
Zach was benched in favor of Mike White and Joe Flacco on multiple occasions in the 2022 season.
Despite his struggles on the field, the team continues to support its young quarterback as he still has plenty of time to turn things around. On the other hand, it’s hard to predict anything in this business and it will not be surprising to see if the Jets get rid of the 23-year-old Quarterback after picking him as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh seemed determined to stand by the highly potential quarterback despite his struggles. “We’re committed to him,” Robert said.
What did Michael Kay say?
Earlier this week, New York radio host Michael Kay stated that “someone close to ownership” informed him that Zach Wilson would “certainly” return to the Jets next season. He went on to say that Johnson’s “close” relationship with his quarterback’s family could be one of the reasons he’s still on the club.
“They know absolutely nothing,” Lisa Wilson responded to Kay’s words on Instagram.
In the end, it’s clear that Zach Wilson’s future as the Jets’ quarterback is based solely on his talent and hard work, and not on any personal relationships his family may or may not have had with team ownership.
Reader, what do you think? Will the Johnson and Jets ownership want to keep their second-year quarterback for a third season or will they start looking out in the market for someone who could bring immediate impact?
I for one hope the young man will be happy playing for any of our NFL TEAMS I REMEMBER TELLING MY YOUNG SON BRYAN I WISHED THAT HE AND HIS OLDER BROTHER COULD PLAY FOR THE 49ERS TOGETHER I HOPE THEY OF COURSE KEEP HIM.
