In the NBA, players often share friendships and rivalries on the court. Borrowing money between them isn’t unusual. Since they’re wealthy, it’s expected they pay it back on time. But for 2-time champion Vernon Maxwell, things didn’t go well. He’s still waiting to get his money back from someone who borrowed it.
That someone happens to be Vincent Askew, a former player for the Golden State Warriors. Vernon Maxwell has taken to social media to demand a $10,000 debt repayment from Vincent. Maxwell’s public call-out has sparked significant attention and discussion within the basketball community.
In a series of unfiltered comments, Maxwell warned his fellow NBA players about lending money to Askew, whom he claims has failed to repay the borrowed amount. By warning all of his NBA brothers, he said, “I want all my NBA brothers to know one thing about this one n***a that’s in our fraternity.
"This N*gga owe me $10,000."

He added, “He a sucka a** n***a. He ain’t s**t. If this n***a calls you and asks you for any type of money, this n***a is lying… ‘I’m going through this divorce’ and all this dumb sh*t.”
After that Vernon Maxwell revealed the name and continued, “His name is Vincent Askew. Do not give him a single dime… He is broke. Stay away from him. He owes me $10,000, and I demand my money back. If he contacts any of my fellow NBA players, do not give him anything.”
Vernon Maxwell praises Luka Doncic’s killer instinct
Vernon Maxwell faced some of the best offensive stars of the 90s, including Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Reggie Miller, and Drazen Petrovic.
While on the Club 520 podcast with Jeff Teague, the 58-year-old opened up about Petrovic, calling him “the Mozart of basketball” and drawing a surprising comparison to Luka Doncic.
Reflecting on Petrovic, Maxwell added, “That was the hardest coverage in the world. I miss this mother**cker, man. He was a killer; he was unbelievable. This guy would have been so special.” When Luka Doncic’s name came up, Maxwell agreed, saying, “I agree. Luka [Doncic] is a killer too.”
