Current UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley is set to have his first title defense against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 299. Vera apparently plans to make O’Malley submit in their match, consequently handing him a humiliating loss.
Sean O’Malley’s coach Tim Welch recently went onto the renowned podcast, The MMA Hour to share his thoughts on the results of the upcoming match. There, he made controversial and bold statement saying Vera’s “shit” plan wouldn’t be enough to defeat O’Malley.
Sean O’Malley’s trainer rips Chito Vera
Tim Welch, Sean O’Malley’s coach, decided to poke some fun at Chito Vera ahead of the two MMA superstars scheduled Championship fight at UFC 299. Welch is a retired MMA fighter himself with experience in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
Welch humorously remarked that Chito Vera has yet to show improvement since his initial encounter with O’Malley. He noted that Vera appears to be slower compared to other fighters and often remains stationary in the octagon. In his own words, Welch stated that Vera “just stands there.” The head coach had a long discussion on the podcast about Vera and said that he has struggled in all his fights leading up to the upcoming title defense.
However, the coach also had respect for Vera’s fighting style and acknowledged that Vera’s durability in his fights was extraordinary. Welsh believes that Vera plans to strike at O’Malley’s legs continuously and thus, has been coaching and preparing him for that exact scenario.
Welsh also expects Vera to suffer a lot but acknowledged him by saying that he is really good at getting beat up and then winning. While it seems that Welsh has prepared O’Malley for every scenario and is confident, he is careful not to underestimate Vera’s abilities in the octagon.
Sean O’Malley vs Chito Vera head-to-head
Sean O’Malley has a longstanding rivalry with Chito Vera since their first bout in 2020 where Vera promptly defeated O’Malley, handing him his first and only loss. Vera is a man who does not back down from a challenge as he has made apparent before. Through victories in challenging matches and overcoming obstacles, Vera has earned his opportunity to once again vie for the Bantamweight Title at UFC 299.
The reigning champion Sean O’Malley is no stranger to threats and has been subjected to a lot of trash talk in the past. However, we need to keep in mind that O’Malley is an experienced trash talker himself and may seem just a tad bit overconfident to casual fans.
The two are no strangers to such hostile talk and let their fists do the talking within the octagon. The anticipation is building up for the fight which will end in either a new champion being crowned or an old champion retaining his title.
