The Combat world was shocked when UFC veteran Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone expressed interest in fighting Jake Paul, even going as far as praising the YouTuber’s skills. Perhaps everyone braced themselves to see another legend get beaten up but Paul himself has now seemingly dismissed the possibility.
What did Donald Cerrone say?
‘Cowboy’ had his last bout against Jim Miller on UFC 276 after suffering consecutive losses for a long while. Many gave out a sigh of relief after the veteran finally decided to call it quits. But Donald appeared in an interview with Brendan Schaub where he expressed interest in taking on ‘The Problem Child’ inside the boxing ring.
What did Jake Paul say in response?
Jake Paul was in Cleveland, Ohio where he literally ‘ran’ into famous MMA reporter Dave Schmulenson aka ‘The Schmo.’ The two had a little sparring session and later conducted an interview. At one point, discussions about Jake’s next opponent came up.
The Schmo asked Paul about the Cerrone callout. Jake first seemed a little bit surprised and asked if the UFC fighter’s contract had expired. Upon confirmation, the YouTube star negatively responded saying,
“I don’t know, I’m kind of tired of beating these old dudes up like that, you know what I’m saying. I’m just trying to get someone in there who is younger, but they’re all scared. They’re just trying to protect their record.”
Previously, Donald emphasized again and again that he was only interested in the fight so that he can get a piece of the ‘millions’ getting thrown around. The 39-year-old also admitted to taking Steroids very recently after photos of his ripped physique surfaced online.
Jake probably doesn’t want to fight him as beating another retired fighter with a long losing streak will probably not do his reputation any good. ‘The Problem Child’ looks to take on someone relevant like Tommy Fury so that he may score a win against a legit fighter.
