The NFL legend Tom Brady, known for his exceptional football career, is also renowned for his great personality. He is known as a family man who is very respectful toward every other individual.
However, Brady’s comments about Jane Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction at the infamous 2004 halftime show weren’t what everyone was expecting from him.
Tom Brady once made a bizarre comment on Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction
During the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show Janet Jackson performed with Justin Timberlake. However, her performance became the most controversial halftime show performance in NFL history because of a wardrobe malfunction.
While performing Rock Your Body in 2004, Justin Timberlake pulled off a portion of Jackson’s clothing, exposing her breasts to millions of people. That moment became the most talked about topic of the whole Super Bowl game.
At that time Tom Brady didn’t say anything about it. But last year in February, the former QB talked about this infamous incident stating that it was “probably a good thing” for the sport. Discussing the 2004 halftime show on his Let’s Go podcast, Brady shared that when it happened, he had no idea about it as he was focused on rest of the game.
“They were asking me about that, and I couldn’t even understand what they were telling me about. They were like, ‘Did you see the halftime show?’ and I said, ‘Nah, I didn’t see anything.’ I was thinking about the game and was trying to figure out halftime adjustments,” Tom said.
However, Brady believes that whatever happened it was good. According to him, it helped the NFL get more viewership and more news articles covering them, as he said, “I think, in the end, it was probably a good thing for the NFL because everyone got to talk about it, and it was just more publicity and more publicity for halftime shows.”
While Brady believes that it was good, this incident became the reason for the downfall of Janet Jackson, whose songs were banned from the radio, and this scandal was named “Nipplegate,” ultimately damaging her career. On the other hand, Timberlake, who was more responsible for the incident, received little criticism and moved on, flourishing his career.
Considering how this incident caused a lot of damage to Jackson, Tom Brady’s comments were inappropriate. However, the former QB said nothing wrong, as the NFL is always striving hard to get more and more viewership.Last year, Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance helped the league, and this year Taylor Swift’s presence in the games.
Tom Brady’s 2004 Super Bowl performance
When Tom Brady said that he was focusing more on winning the Super Bowl than the Halftime show, he wasn’t lying. Despite the halftime show controversy, Brady won the final championship. The former QB had an exceptional 2004 regular season, including a passer rating of 92.6, with 3,692 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
Super Bowl XXXVIII was played on February 1, 2004, between the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers. It took place at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. The Patriots, led by Tom Brady, faced the Carolina Panthers. The Patriots entered halftime with a narrow 14–10 lead. As the game progressed, Brady showcased his clutch performance.
With less than two minutes left and the game tied at 29–29, Brady orchestrated a masterful drive down the field. His precision passing set the stage for a game-winning field goal attempt which helped Adam Vinatieri secure a 32–29 victory with a 41-yard field goal.
For his exceptional performance, Tom Brady was named the Super Bowl XXXVIII Most Valuable Player (MVP), completing 32 of 48 passes for 354 yards and three touchdowns. Super Bowl XXXVIII remains a pivotal chapter in Brady’s career. After that he won many other championships, bidding farewell to the NFL as a seven-time Super Bowl champion.
