Tom Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback, has acquired a share of the Las Vegas Aces of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) following his retirement from football in February. His WNBA team, however, is currently being investigated for alleged major violations.
The 45-year-old has always had a positive outlook on women’s sports, and by buying a stake in Ace, he realized his dream of helping women’s sports develop in a similar manner to men’s sports. Tom Terrific will undoubtedly bring something unique to the WNBA team, as he helped the New England Patriots win six Super Bowl championships and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won one during his illustrious NFL career.
Why is the WNBA team owned by Tom Brady being investigated?
In January, Las Vegas traded one of its top players, Dearica Hamby, to the Los Angeles Sparks. With regard to her departure from the Aces, Hamby made some serious accusations against her former team shortly after the trade. She claimed that they had discriminated against her because she was pregnant. Her statement was published on Instagram.
Before making her pregnancy public in September, Hamby signed a two-year contract extension with the Aces in June. Later, the team accused her of concealing the news of her pregnancy before signing the extension.
“This is false. I was told that I was ‘a question mark’ and that it was said that I said I would ‘get pregnant again’ and there was a concern for my level of commitment to the team,” she claimed.

The 29-year-old asserted that this prejudice caused severe mental depression in her.
“The unprofessional and unethical way that I have been treated has been traumatizing,” she wrote. “To be treated this way by an organization, BY WOMEN who are mothers, who have claimed to ‘be in these shoes,’ who preach family, chemistry, and women’s empowerment is disappointing and leaves me sick to my stomach.”
However, the team subsequently declared in a statement that they were seriously looking into the issues in February.

In addition, the star quarterbacks’ team is being investigated for violating the league’s salary cap by paying players clandestinely. The salary cap and the collective bargaining agreement of the WNBA may have been broken in this case.
The Las Vegas Aces won the WNBA championship in 2022 for the first time ever. Brady should be proud to have a stake in a champion team, but unfortunately, after the allegations against his team, his pride in the team has been shattered into pieces.
