The last couple of years in wrestling have been remarkable, thanks to Tony Khan providing a much-needed alternative to WWE and introducing some actual competition, which has pushed both companies to produce a much better product.
Both WWE and AEW boast incredibly stacked rosters filled with immense talent, and both companies consistently deliver exciting matches on a weekly basis. However, as the year is coming to an end, it will be interesting to see who wins the Booker of the Year award.
Triple H is the clear favorite over Tony Khan
It has been a great year for WWE, and they have been on a roll ever since Triple H took charge of the creative. They’ve begun producing a significantly improved product, which is evident from record-breaking attendance figures and merchandise sales. The record-shattering gate numbers and merchandise sales at international events have further solidified Triple H’s control over the creative aspect. It appears that Vince McMahon has relinquished some of his power after the WWE merger with Endeavor.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has been one of the most popular reporters within the wrestling industry. He gives his best matches, wrestlers, and booker of the year rankings which is well respected within the Internet Wrestling Community. He revealed on social media that Triple H is his choice for the Booker of the Year award and it comes as a surprise as Meltzer loves indie wrestling.
The Bloodline saga has been considered one of the best storylines in the entire history of WWE and is believed to be a significant factor tipping the scales in favor of the Stamford-based company. Although AEW has experienced substantial success with events like All In, which took place in London, they are still trailing behind the juggernaut that is WWE.
Why wrestling fans don’t like Tony Khan?
Tony Khan deserves recognition for providing real competition to WWE for several years, which has been crucial in motivating WWE to enhance its product. Despite offering fans an alternative, he is still disliked by many due to his behavior on social media. He is known for posting controversial tweets, taking shots at WWE with no response from the Stamford-based company. Recently, he publicly insulted Triple H and Shawn Michaels and also made false statements about the gate numbers for All In.
He’s been called unprofessional by wrestling veterans and it’s valid as someone should not be making such comments being the president of AEW, which is a position of responsibility and accountability. He was also responsible for the firing of CM Punk and people have been fingers at Punk but it’s clear that Tony Khan doesn’t know how to handle a locker room with big egos.
