Transfer talk: French icon Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid move faces one major roadblock

With every passing day of the transfer window, the poker games between the clubs keep on getting more and more interesting. After the heartbreak in Qatar, the immediate club future of Kylian Mbappe remains uncertain as the French superstar has made his intentions evident to the PSG hierarchy.

The departure of Lionel Messi sent shockwaves across the city of Paris and little did they know it was just the beginning. In a matter of weeks, Les Bleus captain Kylian Mbappe announced that he will not be renewing his contract with the Parisians, that is due to end in 2024. As Real Madrid sets its sights on acquiring the Parisian superstar, will the heartfelt prayers of Real Madrid fans finally find their answer?

Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid move sees massive hurdle due to player’s loyalty bonus

The French giants signed the mercurial young talent from their rivals AS Monaco for a record transfer fee of $158 million plus $38 million in add-ons, which went on to be the most expensive transfer for a teenager. After a stint of 6 years in Paris, it seems as though PSG’s number 7 set his sights away from Parc des Princes.

Several reports suggest that the loyalty bonus included in the Frenchman’s contract is the stumbling block for the pursuing clubs. It is reported that the mother of the Parisian forward is pushing her son to pocket the $98 million loyalty bonuses that are included in his contract before he moves away from the French capital. The reason behind PSG hierarchy’s reluctance to pay such exorbitant loyalty bonuses seems straightforward as they would stand to gain nothing from the transfer fees offered for their number 7.

Possible Kylian Mbappe targets following Real Madrid

The transfer saga for the PSG superstar dragged on till the transfer deadline day in the 2021 summer transfer window and the failure to complete the transfer resulted in noticeable cracks in the relationship between PSG and Real Madrid. Mbappe has reiterated his desire to play for PSG in the upcoming season during the latest European Qualifiers. The French captain said “I didn’t ask to leave PSG or to join Real Madrid. I just told the club that I won’t activate the option to extend the contract until June 2025. We never discussed a new deal with PSG but I’m happy to stay here next season.

With Qataris trying to take over Manchester United, rumours suggest the English club might jump in with an eleventh-hour bid for the 24-year-old. Arsenal is one of the other clubs that is reportedly watching the situation and is keen on a potential transfer; however, even though these clubs could afford the high transfer fees that come with such a big name, Real Madrid seem to be the only genuine contender in the race solely due to the player’s personal interest.

Kylian Mbappe

There is no denying the fact that Kylian Mbappe is one of the most exciting players in the world. Last season, the French superstar scored 41 goals, provided 10 assists for his club and won the Golden Boot at the World Cup for scoring 8 goals including a hat trick against Messi’s Argentina in the final. After coming close to landing Kylian Mbappe at the Bernabeu for the past few years, it looks like Los Blancos are going to have another shot at it and are optimistic about it.
