The Buffalo Bills have to make a difficult decision as the NFL draft process is set to start soon. While many players have already entered free agency, the Bills have yet to decide on CB Tre’Davious White.
The GM of the team, Brandon Beane, will have to figure out what they want to do regarding this CB situation soon.
Brandon Beane must make difficult decision about Tre’Davious White
Tre’Davious White, a former All-Pro cornerback, suffered season-ending injuries twice. First, he suffered an ACL injury on Thanksgiving night, 2021, against the New Orleans Saints. He suffered another injury in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins. This time, the CB tore his Achilles.
Despite suffering from these injuries, the CB was able to play in his previous form. But these injuries became a devastating setback for him and didn’t let him play to his full potential.
When the GM of the team was asked about White and whether he would be able to play for the Bills in 2024, he simply replied, “Yeah, it’s a good question.”
Tre’Davious White is under contract with the Bills for 2024 and 2025. His scheduled salary cap hit for 2024 is $16.443 million, with a roster bonus of $1.5 million due on March 18.
Releasing or trading him before March 18 would save the Bills $6.073 million in cap space but result in $10.369 million in dead money.
After March 18 but before June 1, the cap savings decreased to $4.573 million, with $11.869 million in dead money. If released after June 1, the Bills would save $10.208 million against the cap in 2024, with dead money charges of $6.234 million this season and $4.134 million against the 2025 cap.
As the Bills, who paid fans during the playoffs, need cap space money right now, they could decide on releasing the CB and saving $6 million in cap space.
Rams could be White’s next destination
The Los Angeles Rams grappled with a problematic cornerback situation last season as they were in the bottom half of the league in defending the pass. If they want to improve next season, they need to sign a talented CB during the upcoming NFL Draft.
Considering the team’s urgent need for a talented CB, Tre’Davious White can be the team’s favorite choice.
If the Bills decide to release White, for now, the Rams appear to be the best landing spot for him. Despite recent setbacks, White is one of the most talented cornerbacks, with the title of two-time Pro Bowler winner. He was also named to the AP All-Pro First Team in 2019.
White could definitely help the Rams overcome their pass-defense issues. As soon as the Bills make a final decision about Tre’Davious White, the Rams might also extend their offer.
