In a heartbreaking turn of events for the Dallas Cowboys, star CB Trevon Diggs recently suffered a significant ACL tear during a routine training session on Thursday. The injury comes as a major setback for the team and Diggs, who is ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The 2021 All-Pro was recently seen leaving the Cowboys’ headquarters in crutches, laying the team’s resolute defense for this season in disarray. The Dallas Cowboys declared in a statement that a return date for Trevon Diggs has not been determined, but fans might not see their favorite CB taking the field soon either.
Cowboys star CB Trevon Diggs suffers season-ending injury during practice
The MRI conducted on the player revealed that Trevon Diggs had suffered a “clean tear,” which means that he is expected to make a full recovery without any complications and be back in action sooner than anticipated.
Part of a team defense with 10 sacks and seven takeaways in the first two weeks of the season, the loss of Trevon Diggs will leave a big hole in that lineup.
“Saw that I guess a couple of you saw out there on the field,” said QB Dak Prescott about the injury, “Prayers, hoping for the best, simple as that.”
The Cowboys have depth in their defense, but it will be difficult to match the potency and skill of Trevon Diggs, who is the leading interceptor since joining the league in 2020. In all likelihood, Jourdan Lewis will be replacing Diggs in the CB role, partnering up former DPOY Stephon Gilmore.
Diggs took to X (Formerly Twitter) to thank his supporters for their love and faith. “I will be back and better,” he added.
Dallas Cowboys visit the Cardinals on Sunday, looking to keep their excellent form going in this fixture. However, in the absence of Diggs, the likes of Gilmore and Jourdan Lewis will have to step up and keep the defense running.
