Brad Katona has made a name for himself since he made his debut in 2010 in smaller promotions. Before joining The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Katona was already on an unbeaten record. He started pursuing MMA as a career in 2016 and joined Straight Blast Gym Ireland in 2017 under his coach John Kavanagh.
In November 2017, it was announced that the Canadian fighter would be joining TUF, competing in the Featherweight Division. Brad went on a winning streak, defeating Kyler Phillips, Bryce Mitchell, and Jay Cucciniello, and got a hold of the champion belt. As he was originally a Bantamweight, he went back to his original weight division after conquering Featherweight.
Brad Katona secures victory at UFC 292
The Ultimate Fighter is a reality TV series produced by UFC which showcases young MMA talents. Fighters compete to get a hold of UFC contracts in this show. There have been 31 seasons of this show so far. In the latest season, “Superman” faced Cody “The Renegade” Gibson. A fight that was bound to be forever remembered as an iconic one in the history of TUF.
The fight started off with both men showcasing their best abilities. Gibson was utilizing his size and reach and putting constant pressure as Katona kept on pushing forward through perseverance and landing counters and strong body shots. It seemed to be a close fight as the finishing bell rang and both the fighters stood steadfast with energy to spare.
The fight was counted as a victory for the Canadian fighter by unanimous decision of the judges. The scorecards read (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) in favor of Brad.
Brad Katona creates a new record in TUF history
After the win, “Superman” admitted that Cody was “hungry” for victory as well and that he has a lot of respect for him as he has earned his spot. When asked by Joe Rogan about how Katona felt being back, he replied by saying “This is the best canvas out there” and spoke about how he missed this feeling every day when he was back in Ireland training.
“Superman” has made history by winning this title. He has become the first-ever fighter in TUF history to win two championships. This Bantamweight bout was the season 31 finale of TUF and the preliminary card of UFC 292 which shows the clash between Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley.
