Tyler Adams Injury Update: USMNT captain reportedly to miss few months following hamstring surgery

Tyler Adams, the captain of the US men’s national team, now plays for Premier League side AFC Bournemouth as a midfielder. Adams joined the club during this summer’s transfer window for €29 million on a 5-year long-term deal, having switched from league rivals Leeds United.

The 24-year-old is yet to make his Premier League debut for his new club, having only played 20 minutes in the EFL Cup. Since then, he has remained sidelined due to a severe injury suffered while playing for his former side, Leeds United. This setback has further prolonged his absence.

The US international, who captained his national team in the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup, was also voted for the US Soccer Men’s Player of the Year award in the same year. In terms of his club career, Tyler played for Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig before moving to London to sign for Leeds United.

Adams made 26 appearances for the London-based club and was linked to another London giant, Chelsea. The negotiations were agreed upon, and he had passed his medical with the Blues, but the deal fell through at the last moment. Subsequently, Bournemouth signed the midfielder late in the transfer window. However, things haven’t gone well since then.

In March, while playing for Leeds United, Adams suffered a hamstring injury that sidelined him for 3 weeks. Upon joining his new club, he made an appearance in the EFL Carabao Cup. Unfortunately for the player, he is now likely to be out of action until next year due to a reoccurrence of the previous injury.

Why did Tyler Adams sustain an injury?

Earlier in March, Tyler Adams had been sidelined due to a hamstring injury while playing for Leeds United. He would go on to miss international duty before feeling confident to take the field again.

According to reports, Tyler Adams’ previous surgery did not yield the expected benefits, and he will undergo another surgery, keeping him out of action until February next year. The recovery and rehabilitation are expected to take a period of 4-5 months. The midfielder faces at least five months of recovery and injury rehab, with hopes that he will return to the pitch in early Spring.

Adams’ prolonged absence is a significant setback for both the US national team and his club. He played a crucial role in the US midfield and is now set to miss next year’s Copa America 2024, where the USA has been invited as a guest participant.

Meanwhile, his league debut for Bournemouth remains doubtful, and his club is currently struggling in the 19th position, residing in the relegation zone on the league table.
