Tyreek Hill sheds doubt on WRs winning MVP while endorsing Dolphins star for prestigious nod

The notion that Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill could contend for the NFL MVP award is gaining national attention, despite Hill’s reservations. Renowned for his outstanding season, Hill expressed skepticism about wide receivers clinching the coveted MVP honor.

Rather, he referred to another Dolphins star for this award. Despite his remarkable achievements, the prevailing narrative underscores the challenge non-quarterbacks face in securing prestigious MVP recognition in the league.

Hill skeptical about WRs winning MVP

Tyreek Hill, who recently shared the reason why he left the Chiefs, expressed skepticism about wide receivers winning the MVP, labeling it a quarterback-centric award.

“I don’t think so, man, because there have been numerous times man like before I even started playing football that guys been making plays or had a great season; it’s a quarterback award.”

He acknowledged the historical trend and stated he would be happier if his teammate, Tua Tagovailoa, won the award.

“We all know that. And if Tua (Tagovailoa) won it, I’d be happy. I’d be happier if Tua won it.”

Tyreek Hill previously claimed that Tua is a more accurate QB than Patrick Mahomes and now he thinks Tua is more deserving of the MVP award. Despite the MVP skepticism, Hill expressed contentment with his life, emphasizing that he has everything he wants, including the opportunity to play the game he loves.

“I’ve gotten everything I want and I get a chance to play the game that I love. God has blessed me with that. But obviously winning the award would be icing on the cake but God has blessed me everything I got, being here in Miami., my family is enjoying life. I’m enjoying life. I’m just enjoying what every day has to offer. Couldn’t ask for more.”

The WR acknowledged that the MVP award has evolved into a quarterback-focused recognition, especially favoring those on top-seeded teams.

Historical data spanning the past 10 seasons shows that MVPs have consistently been quarterbacks from top-seeded teams. The last time a non-quarterback (Adrian Peterson) won the MVP was in 2012, when the Minnesota Vikings running back rushed for over 2,000 yards.

But still, Tyreek Hill’s exceptional performance in the current season has sparked discussions about his potential as an MVP candidate, challenging the established trend favoring quarterbacks.

Hill’s record-breaking performance fuels Dolphins’ victory over Commanders

In August, Tyreek Hill set a bold goal to become the first player in NFL history with 2,000 receiving yards in a single season. Hill has lived up to his goal, achieving the most receiving yards over the first 11 games of the season in the Super Bowl era (since 1966), reaching 1,324 yards.

Tyreek Hill is on pace to surpass Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving yards record of 1,964, projected to reach 2,046 by Week 13. Hill’s game against the Washington Commanders showcased a record-breaking performance. He totaled 157 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns (78 yards and 60 yards) on five catches, contributing to a 45-15 victory.

The WR’s fifth game with over 150 receiving yards and at least one touchdown in 2023 broke the NFL single-season record for the most such games. This record was previously shared in a five-way tie, including Hall of Famers Lance Alworth and Don Maynard.

Tyreek Hill further solidified his impact by rewriting the Dolphins’ single-season records. He now has eight games with over 100 receiving yards in the season, tying the Miami single-season record set by Mark Duper in 1986. The WR played incredibly this season and also tied the knot in the bye-week.

With five games left in the season, the WR is poised to achieve more success. His record-breaking performance throughout the season and his ambitious goal have positioned him as an MVP candidate.
