The summer transfer window has opened, and clubs have started their shopping already. Serie A side Inter Milan have started selling and buying players to reinforce the squad. This is especially after a disappointing season, after their Champions League final defeat to Manchester City.
In a most surprising transfer, one of Juventus’ most important and longtime players Juan Cuadrado will leave the club. Cristiano Ronaldo’s ex-teammate at Juventus will be joining Inter Milan on a free transfer on a one-year contract.
Inter Milan secure ex-Juventus star Juan Cuadrado
The Colombian wingback left Juventus as his contract there expired. As his performances were drying up, on top of the fact that he is 35 years old now, the club let him leave.
According to the club’s website, Inter Milan has secured him on a one-year contract on a low salary. For them, it is a good deal as Cuadrado would be a good backup option at very low financial risk. The club is struggling with finances and is hoping to recover some funds to help keep the project going.
Cuadrado himself revealed why he joined Inter Milan, a known rival of Juventus. He described that he did it mainly because of his family. As he spent almost the entirety of his career in Italy, he and his family have become accustomed to the country. As such to stay there and keep playing football, he joined the Old Lady.
He said: “I had many offers, but Italy is a second home for me. My family is very attached to this country, and there was the opportunity to stay here and play for a big team with a fantastic history.”
“I chose Inter because we all know what they represent on a global level. The important thing is for my family and I to feel good. We had the opportunity to remain in a place that, for us, is home. It’ll definitely be the best choice.”
How long has Cuadrado played with Ronaldo at Juventus?
Cuadrado was a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo when the Portuguese star played at Juventus between 2018-21. In fact, Cuadrado was even linked with Ronaldo’s current club, Al-Nassr. But the club instead is going for Alex Telles.
Cuadrado initially joined Juventus on loan from Chelsea in 2015. After the loan was over, he again spent another year in London. It was then that the Turin-based club made his move permanent, signing him for a €25m fee.
The Colombian also spent much time in Italy, playing for clubs like Udinese, Fiorentina, and Lecce. He briefly played for Chelsea before going back to Italy.
Inter Milan will now look on to more signings, as the team prepares for more reinforcements for the next season. But what do you think of this one? Don’t forget to let us know in the comments section.
