UFC Champ Alexander Volkanovski fires back at Ilia Topuria after El Matador Promises to Stop The ‘Great’ in first-round

Ilia Topuria expressed his aspirations to become the next contender to challenge Alexander Volkanovski’s featherweight reign. As Topuria issued a warning to the current titleholder, Volkanovski swiftly responded to the undefeated fighter’s remarks.

The main event of UFC 290 featured an enthralling clash between ‘El Pantera’ and ‘The Great,’ capturing the interest of MMA enthusiasts. In an impressive display, Volkanovski dominated over his Mexican opponent, ensuring a successful defense of his featherweight title.

Alexander Volkanovski fires back at Ilia Topuria following first-round knockout guarantee

After UFC 290, Topuria expressed his opinion that Volkanovski’s performance against Rodriguez was not particularly exceptional, as he believes it was merely what the champion was expected to do. Despite the Australian fighter’s victory, the undefeated fighter seemed unimpressed and is confident that he poses an even greater threat to Volkanovski’s reign.

“For me, it’s going to be an easy fight. Every time I move up in the rankings, every fight is going to be more easy for me. And why? Because it’s more easy to have a game plan against guys who are more technical than fight with someone who’s unpredictable.” Topuria said.

Following the bout, Volkanovski engaged in a verbal exchange with Topuria at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The reigning champion wasted no time in rebutting Topuria’s assertion. ‘The Great’ does not believe that Topuria has earned the right to compete for the title yet.

“He’s got to be confident. There’s confidence, and then there’s delusional. I don’t mind the bloke. But what he’s saying doesn’t really make sense, like, ‘I’d beat him in the first round.’ Like, do you watch me fight?” Volkanovski said.
