UFC superstar Conor McGregor has previously supported lightweight champion Katie Taylor from the sidelines and it was no different this time around as the Bray Bomber made her home debut against Chantelle Cameron at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
The stakes for this fight were massive as both the fighters were undefeated. Moreover, Katie Taylor moved up a weight class to challenge the British undisputed light welterweight champion’s belts. Subsequently, The Notorious who was a major sponsor for this super fight was in attendance at the 3Arena and was seen cheering for Katie throughout the bout.
However, Conor was dejected to see his fellow fighter lose her home match-up as Cameron won the bout via majority decision.
Conor McGregor reveals that Katie Taylor took a big risk against Chantelle Cameron
Undisputed light welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron displayed a tremendous performance and handed Katie Taylor a decision loss in front of the enemy territory. Some fans and fighters questioned the judges’ scorecard and former UFC champion Conor McGregor was one amongst those who did not agree with the outcome.
McGregor who was at close quarters during the announcement of the result was shocked after hearing the judges give Cameron the victory. Consequently, in an interview with BBC, the Irishman expressed his frustration over the result. He also revealed the reason behind Katie Taylor’s slow start in this matchup.
“Sport won tonight, it was a great one. A very close fight. Katie went up a weight at the drop of a hat to make this event happen. She didn’t have time to build up to the weight. She took a chance,” said Conor.
“We had it a draw there. The nerves at the start of the fight set her back. She wasn’t Katie at the start. She was Katie from midway on when she started to come on into her own. Close fight but I’d call it a draw,” he added.
Did judges rob Katie Taylor of a win against Chantelle Cameron?
Katie Taylor’s quest for achieving further greatness came to a halt as Chantelle Cameron stopped the Irish force in what was an epic twelve-round bout. As Conor McGregor said, Taylor wasn’t herself at the start and the British champion took full advantage of the situation. Cameron was quick and landed several combinations to pressurize the crowd favorite.

It was a similar story in the next few rounds as Chantelle Cameron asserted her dominance with the help of her speed. However, out of the two boxers, The Bray Bomber was more accurate as she landed 39% of her shots. But it was Cameron who landed more punches which made a big impact on the outcome of the fight.
It seems like. apart from a few big names like Conor McGregor and Claressa Shields, there weren’t a lot of fans on social media who were claiming that the result was a robbery. Do let us know in the comments section your thoughts on the result of the undisputed title fight.
